About Myrbetriq 25 MG
What is Myrbetriq and what does does it do?
Close to 30 percent of men and 40 percent of women living in the United States live with overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms. Symptoms include urinary frequency, nocturia, sudden urge to urinate and urinary incontinance. Myrbetriq, a beta-3 adrenergic agonist, was approved by the FDA in June 28,2012 for the treatment of overactive bladder. Myrbetriq is an effective treatment that helps relieves symptoms for 3 out of 5 patients suffering from overactive bladder problems.
How does Myrbetriq work?
Myrbetriq is available as an ER (extended release) formulation. It has a special coating formulated to give it a longer lasting effect which only needs to be taken once a day. By activating the β3‑AR, myrbetriq relaxes the bladders smooth muscle, reducing the symptoms of an overactive bladder.
What is the dosage of Myrbetriq?
Myrbetriq ER stays in the system for 24 hours and the maximum daily dose is 50 mg. Since it is an extended release medication, it should be taken on the same time of the day each day. Myrbetriq should not be taken if you have highly uncontrolled blood pressure and allergic to any of the ingredients in Myrbetriq. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take Myrbetriq.
If you miss a dose of Myrbetriq proceed taking the medication at the usual time you take it and do not double your dose for the day. If you miss taking it for several days, inform your doctor and follow advice given to you.
What other substitutions are there for Myrbetriq?
There are several other medications used to control overactive bladder symtoms as alternatives to Myrbetriq.
Toviaz (fesoterodine) and Vesicare (solifenacin) are two commonly prescribed alternatives of Myrbetriq.
Enablex (darifenacin) is another medication that helps better with symptoms of OAB. A generic equivalent is available.
Detrol (tolterodine) another alternative of Myrbetriq, comes in both extended and immediate release. Generics are also available for this medication.
Ditropan (oxybutynin) is one of the newer OAB (Over active Bladder) medications.
Sanctura (trospium) is an alternative of Myrbetriq often prescribed for patients with liver problems.
