About Trelegy Ellipta
What is Trelegy Ellipta Inhaler?
Trelegy Ellipta is a FDA-approved once-daily inhaler medicine that combines 3 long-acting medicines in 1 inhaler and is used to treat and manage lung functions in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults. Trelegy Ellipta is effective for reducing flare-ups. Trelegy Ellipta is a maintenance medication and cannot be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Trelegy Ellipta is not for the treatment of asthma.
How does Trelegy Ellipta work?
This inhaler delivers three drugs namely, fluticasone furoate, umeclidinium, and vilanterol.
Fluticasone is an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid. Fluticasone helps to decrease inflammatory cells, such as eosinophils, monocytes, mast cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It reduces inflammation and swelling in the lungs.
Umeclidinium is a long acting antimuscarinic (LAMA) anticholinergic that affects muscarinic receptors M1 - M5. Umeclidinium causes bronchodilation in the airways by inhibiting the M3 receptors at the smooth muscle sites. It blocks tightening of smooth muscle around your airways and keep them open.
Vilanterol is a long acting bronchodilator (LABA). It increase cyclic AMP levels, relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, and inhibits inflammatory mediators. It opens airways by relaxing muscles around the airways in your lungs and thus ease the breathing.
What is the most common dosage of Trelegy Ellipta?
Use 1 inhalation a day. Try to use medication at the same time every day. If you miss a dose of inhalation, take it immediately whenever you remember. Do not exceed 1 inhalation per day. Take your next dose at your usual time. Do not take 2 doses at 1 time. That means 1 single inhalation once a day will provide you a full 1 day of easy breathing. This inhaler reduces COPD flare-ups.
Your symptoms may worsen if you discontinue your inhaler without speaking to your healthcare provider. Just remember that if you stop taking your daily dose by inhalation, symptoms could return. Your healthcare provider will change your medicines as needed.
