Dry eye is a chronic condition with insufficient tears in the eyes. The surface of the eye becomes dry causing discomfort and pain. It also causes redness, itching, and burning sensation in the eyes. Dry eyes often becomes worst in winter because of dry weather outdoors and low humidity indoors with increased heater use.
Xiidra eye drops
Xiidra is a prescription medicine manufactured by Shire Biochem. Xiidra eye drops contain Lifitegrast 5% w/v. It reduces inflammation caused by T lymphocytes. Lifitegrast is a FDA approved drug. It is very effective in the treatment of dry eye disease.
Xiidra is available as a single-use container - after using the single-use container in each eye, the container should be discarded.
Side effects of Xiidra
Side effects of Xiidra are rare so please consult your doctor if you experience any:
• Disturbance in vision
• Blurring of vision
• Redness in the eyes
• Runny nose
• Unusual taste in the mouth
Xiidra use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of Xiidra is not known in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Therefore, consult your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Important Safety Information about Xiidra
Xiidra eye drops should not be used if you are allergic to any of the formulation ingredients. Consult your doctor, if you experience any symptoms of an allergy after using Xiidra.
You should never touch the tip of the container of Xiidra as it will contaminate the medication.
If you are a regular user of contact lenses, then remove lenses while putting drops in the eyes. Place your lenses back into eyes after 15 minutes of Xiidra instillation.
The safety and efficacy of Xiidra are not known in children under 17 years of age. Therefore, consult a doctor if your age is less than 17 years.
